Minneapolis, MN (June7, 2020) –Kirk Johnson of Minneapolis-based KAJ Productions, long-time producer, dancer and drummer with Prince, has released a collaborative version of Prince’s song, “The Cross”, from his iconic Sign O’ The Times album. Bringing together musicians crossing all four decades of Prince’s remarkable career. The collaboration unites band members from The Revolution, New Power Generation and 3RDEYEGIRL.
In the midst of widespread unrest gripping Minneapolis, the nation and the world, at the same time as the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance is presented as a message of hope, love and peace. Prior to recording and producing the song, Johnson queried Prince fans via social media asking for song suggestions. The consensus was “The Cross.” Musicians then recorded parts individually and sent their individual parts to Johnson, who produced the collective version release today.
The release is symbolic in that it honors the birth of Prince, who was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 7, 1958, at a time when many people are searching for a new beginning.
“When you wake up, each day looks the same, so each day should be a new beginning.” – PRINCE
