FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Paul, Minnesota (November 16, 2016) – Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities will be distributing 60,000 Thanksgiving meals during the holiday week – the largest food giveaway of its kind in Minnesota – to feed the hungry in our community.

“The bags of food only cost about $35,” explains Dr. Charles P. Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities. “Each year, we have friends and neighbors in need at our Men’s Campus, eagerly anticipating getting their bag. Why is this? Because this food makes a huge difference in someone’s budget for November. But that meal is just the first step toward hope.“Hope begins with a meal,” Dr. Morgan continues. When people are fed, they have the strength to focus on their choices and future plans.

The Mission’s multi-leveled programming, in addition to our meal services, helps those in need in our community to thrive and become productive citizens again.”According to Hunger Solutions Minnesota, Minnesotans made 3,281,389 visits to food shelves in 2015. Without this bag of food or the hot meals we serve on Thanksgiving, many people would have a hard time making it through the month of November.

The Mission even distributes thousands of meals to National Guard families to let them know they haven’t been forgotten.Ordinary people in churches and businesses partner with the Mission to make this food giveaway possible. About 40 organizations are helping gather bags this year, and over 500 volunteers help with the Thanksgiving events.Key Dates
